Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
