Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician has been charged with performing assaults against 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Grave Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

List of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police are urging individuals with information to get in touch with the investigating team.
