An individual who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody before a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.

She explained Ruben proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities again.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
