The Journey of a Cult is often marked by specific steps.

1. The Core Concept

A charismatic leader or figureheads present a new and transcendent idea offering a cure for alienated and vulnerable people.

Thus we find ourselves. Plans are in motion to confront the system overseas. The gunships are circling. Conflict emerges from the sidelines. One individual, vulnerable, anxious, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT displayed prominently as a statement, has come staggering into view and is being led away with discretion for a temporary assignment at Derbyshire.

Remember the start, when everything was fresh? The days of Bazball 1.0, of pure instinct.

2. Initial Adoration

Movement founders offer a fresh beginning, hope for a future, support, redemption among a group united in belief in the philosophy.

What was this thing initially? Players celebrating enjoying success. Tattoos. Forearms. Jawlines. Confident masculinity. Oh sure, The squad will claim it’s not a real term, ironically since it’s not recognized, what exactly did I just watch?

But we know the concept. It’s the batsman attempting a move so depraved it has to be pixelated. It’s the thrill of the leader at his peak, a look that says: focused titan, beard made of wood, untamed style, truly contemporary you wouldn’t be surprised to look down and see him playing at mid-off stripped to the waist and cradling a wild salmon.

Is it just me? The backlash, the outrage, the disappointment following the initial loss appears excessive, overdone. The batting collapsed on the field, as history shows. And now we have this the pile-on, the frustration, the perception of the team as a failure. This is the core issue. Everything is a cult. Bazball was a cult since the sport itself is insular. The players have been isolated in this environment from a young age. Attempting to break free, to build a better atmosphere, they are just repeating their past, building another enclosure, a limited community, however with a new team and a mentor promoting authenticity as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.
